Short answers to the questions people ask most about ArkenOS.
Short answers to the questions people ask before and while they use ArkenOS: where things run, which models, what it costs, and what happens when you're away. Each answer links to the page with the details. For something not working, see Troubleshooting.
Does ArkenOS run on my computer or in the cloud?
Both, split by job. Agents, your files, chats, channels, issues and automations run and live on your computer. Your account, organization, plan and billing live in ArkenOS's cloud, and every model call agents make goes through the ArkenOS model gateway on its way to the model provider. Security and privacy lists exactly what goes where.
Does my code leave my computer?
Your files stay on disk. When an agent works with a file, the parts it reads become part of the model request, which travels through ArkenOS's gateway to the model provider. ArkenOS keeps a copy of request content for security, with secrets stripped out, for no more than 180 days under its privacy policy. Keep credentials out of files agents read; see Security and privacy.
Does ArkenOS train on my data?
No. The privacy policy commits ArkenOS to keeping customer content out of model training, and to never selling it or licensing it as training data. Providers you connect with your own keys or plans follow their own terms, so check those for confidential work.
Which models can I use?
- Plans you already pay for, by signing in under Settings → Models → Subscriptions: ChatGPT, SuperGrok, GitHub Copilot and coding plans like Kimi Code or MiniMax.
- API keys from model providers, under Model providers.
- A custom endpoint that speaks the OpenAI, Anthropic or Google API, at a public HTTPS address.
- Organization models that your admins share with everyone in the organization.
See Connect models.
What does it cost?
Your plan (Genesis, Vector, Horizon or Vanguard) pays for ArkenOS. Model use is separate: plans and keys you connect bill through their provider. ArkenOS's own models, where your organization has them, use your organization's credits, and Auto-reload has a Monthly ceiling to cap automatic top-ups. See Credits and grants.
Can agents keep working while I'm away?
Yes, while ArkenOS is running and the computer is awake.
- On a Mac, closing the last window leaves ArkenOS running. Quitting the app stops the work.
- Keep awake while agents are working in Settings → General keeps the computer from sleeping mid-run. Open at login starts ArkenOS when you sign in to your computer.
- Use a goal for long work, so it keeps going turn after turn.
- Automations run on their schedule while ArkenOS is running. If the computer was off at the scheduled time, one catch-up run happens when ArkenOS is back.
Can I use it offline?
Your files and pages open from disk, but agents need an internet connection to reach their models, and the gateway checks your plan on each call.
Can I have several workspaces or windows open?
Yes. Make a workspace per project from the Workspaces page, and open a second window with File → New Window (⌘⇧N). Each workspace keeps its own agent memory and chats.
Can I belong to more than one organization?
Yes. Switch between them from the Organizations menu at the top of the Workspaces page, where New organization makes another.
Can my team work in the same workspace?
Your organization shares its members, teams, plan and organization models. A workspace, with its chats, channels and issues, lives on the computer that runs it. To work on the same project, share the folder, for example through git: pages in .arkenos/ and agent memory in .optimus/agents/ travel with it. See Where your data lives.
Where do I see which version I have?
At the bottom of the sidebar, as a version number such as v1.4.0. Settings → General → Updates also says You're on ArkenOS …, and on a Mac the app menu has About arkenOS. See Stay up to date.
How do I uninstall ArkenOS and remove my data?
- Quit ArkenOS and delete the app.
- Delete the app's data folder to remove chats, channels, issues, automations and settings. On a Mac it's
~/Library/Application Support/arkenOS/; other systems are listed in Where your data lives. - If you want, delete the
.arkenos/and.optimus/folders inside your workspace folders. Your own files are untouched either way. - Disconnect model providers in Settings → Models first if you want their saved credentials removed from your account.
