Install ArkenOS
Download the desktop app, install it, and keep it up to date.
ArkenOS is a desktop app. Your agents work on your own computer, next to your files, so install it on the machine where your code, data and runs live.
Which build to pick
| Computer | Build | File |
|---|---|---|
| Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) | macOS, Apple Silicon | .dmg |
| Windows PC | Windows x64 | .exe installer |
| Linux PC | Linux x64 | .AppImage |
Not sure which Mac you have? Open the Apple menu → About This Mac and look at Chip. An Apple M-series chip means the Mac build is the right one.

ArkenOS checks for new versions while it runs. When one is ready:
- The version number at the bottom of the sidebar turns into an Update button. Click it to download, then click Restart to update.
- A card in the bottom-right corner says Update available and shows the version you have and the one that's ready.
Optional updates can wait until a good moment: dismiss the card and update later. An Update required card stays until you install it. App updates covers each system and what happens to running agents.
- Update between runs. Restarting stops whatever agents are doing. Let a long run finish, or pause it, before you click Restart to update.
- Install on the machine that does the work. Agents run where the app runs. If your GPU box is a different computer from your laptop, install ArkenOS there.
- Keep it awake for long runs. Turn on Keep awake while agents are working in Settings → General so the computer stays awake mid-run. The display can still turn off.
